Where the map comes from

Boundaries as of September 19, 2026

The short version: Raiz places you in a city or town and a neighborhood, never at an address. The boundaries behind that come from the Province of British Columbia, from the cities that publish their own neighborhood maps, and from OpenStreetMap. Each source is named below as its licence asks.

Cities and towns

The boundary of every municipality in British Columbia comes from the Province's layer of legally defined administrative areas. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – British Columbia.

Neighborhoods drawn by the cities themselves

Where a city publishes its own neighborhood map as open data, Raiz uses that map.

Abbotsford. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the City of Abbotsford Open Data Licence.
Burnaby. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence - City of Burnaby.
Coquitlam. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence - Coquitlam.
Kamloops. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the City of Kamloops Open Data Licence.
Langley (Township). Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the Township of Langley Open Government Licence.
Maple Ridge. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the City of Maple Ridge Open Data Licence.
Nanaimo. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the City of Nanaimo Open Data Licence.
New Westminster. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence - City of New Westminster.

West Kelowna. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the City of West Kelowna open data.
Whistler. Neighborhood boundaries from its own open data. Contains information licensed under the Resort Municipality of Whistler open data.

Neighborhoods drawn from OpenStreetMap

In 24 cities and towns the neighborhood boundaries are derived from OpenStreetMap's named neighborhoods: Belcarra, Bowen Island, Campbell River, Chilliwack, Courtenay, Delta, Kelowna, Kitimat, Lake Country, Mission, Nelson, North Cowichan, North Saanich, North Vancouver (City), North Vancouver (District), Oak Bay, Port Coquitlam, Powell River, Richmond, Sechelt, Surrey, Terrace, West Vancouver and White Rock. Neighborhood boundaries in these cities are derived from OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). The boundaries Raiz derived from that data are available in a machine-readable form under the same licence: write to hello@rhaeize.com.

Everywhere else

In the other 120 cities and towns of the province, the whole municipality is one neighborhood on Raiz for now, drawn from the Province's boundary above.
