Safety on Raiz

The short version: what neighbors post is checked as it goes up, Report and Block are one tap from everything, a block works both ways everywhere in Raiz, a person reviews the queue every day, and Raiz is for people 16 and older.

1. Who is in the square

Neighbors, by name. Signed-in neighbors see what you post with the display name you chose. It need not be your legal name, but it is the same name on everything you post, the way it is on your street. Anything published outside the app is anonymized.
16 and older. Raiz is for people 16 and older. The Terms of Service say so, and we do not knowingly hold information about anyone younger.
A neighborhood, never an address. You declare one of Vancouver's local areas. Raiz never asks for a street address, and an event's venue is whatever place name the host types.
The Verified badge, checked once. The badge is optional. When you run the check, your phone reads your location one time and Raiz compares it to the neighborhood you declared. What is kept is a yes or a no, and when. Your coordinates are never stored, and nobody's location is ever shown to anyone.

2. Before it goes up

Every post, comment, event and opinion is checked as you send it, and again on every edit. The check refuses a short list before anything publishes: sexual content, graphic violence or threats, hateful content, singling out or exposing a private person, weapons or drugs for sale, and obvious scams. Everything else goes up as you wrote it, and anything the check is unsure about is flagged for a person to look at while it is up. The check runs on the server, so it cannot be skipped by a modified app.

Job Board listings are held for review before they publish. Photos on posts and comments, event banners, profile photos and pet photos are reviewed after upload and removed if they break the ground rules; you are told in the app when that happens.

3. Report and Block, one tap deep

Report sits behind the three dots on every post, opinion, comment, event, question and answer, Job Board listing, chat and profile. A report takes the item off your feed right away and puts it in front of a person. Reporting a chat attaches the recent messages, so the person reviewing it can see what happened.
Block sits in the same menu. Block a neighbor and the two of you disappear from each other across all of Raiz: opinions, posts, comments, reactions, events, questions, listings and messages, theirs from you and yours from them. The block is enforced in the database, in both directions, not only hidden on your screen, and a blocked pair cannot react to or comment on each other's posts. Blocks are yours to undo from Settings.

4. Who reviews, and how often

Reports and the items the check flagged land in one queue. A person reviews that queue every day, weekends included, and keeps, removes or restores each item. When something of yours is taken down, you are told in the app. Limits on how much any one account can post, list, message or report in a day are enforced on the server.

5. Job Board chats and meeting up

Every Job Board chat opens with the same note: Meet in public when you can. Keep payment simple. Report anything off. The listing you are talking about stays pinned at the top of the chat.
Chat is between two named neighbors, opened from one specific listing. It is not an open inbox anyone can write to.
Raiz handles no money and takes no cut. Pay is whatever the listing says and stays between the two of you. The work, the pay and what you agree are between neighbors; Raiz connects you and does not step in between.
Child and family care listings can only be posted by a neighbor who holds the Verified badge, and every one of them carries a standing note that Raiz does not screen caregivers.

6. What a notification carries

A push notification from Raiz carries no names and no message text. It says only that something is waiting for you in the app, and the details wait inside. Raiz asks for notification permission after you do something that would produce one, never when you first sign up, and you can turn each kind on or off from your profile.

7. If someone is in danger

Call 911. Raiz is not an emergency service, and a report on Raiz is not a call for help.
